I have done something rather foolish. Not only was a silly enough to ask the children what they wanted to do in the summer holdiays, I then went and committed this to writing. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, I've strung the list across the kitchen. 42 things. 42! Yesterday was day one. We spent it crafting, colouring, painting, watching movies, playing on the water slide, going for a walk. And guess what? Not one of those was on the list. If that wasn't bad enough, they managed to come up with another three they wanted adding.
If you too want to join the whole "torturing yourself with a summer list", I thought I'd put together 50 things you can do in the garden this holiday. Oh, and please feel free to follow my children's lead in adding your own. I mean, I wouldn't want to be the only one with no hope at all of getting through their list.
1. Make garden spotting sheets
2. Press flowers - then make pressed flower book marks
3. Stargaze at night
6. Cut and arrange some flowers
7. Go on a mini-beast hunt - or even have an entire bug themed party
8. Put double-sided sticky tape on some card and see how many nature colours the children can spot and collect on a walk outside
11. Make a tent from a clothes horse, pegs and sheet and set up your own camping site
12. Make a garden collage
13. Try some open air theatre - drag the dressing up box outside and let the kids put on a show
14. Pick some strawberries and make a summery milkshake
16. Find some fairy gifts
17. Collect some seeds and make your own seed packets
18. Set up an outdoor cinema and watch a family movie in the garden

31. Build a tree house
34. Jump in puddles
35. Write your name on a pumpkin
36. Use some bamboo canes, netting and prunings to make a camouflaged bird spotting den
37. Take the children out to choose their own autumn bulbs for planting

39. Blow some bubbles
40. Go bark rubbing
41. Make 'magic mixtures' or even set up your own mud pie kitchen
42. Make a list for a scavenger hunt
