Last year the children and I made a mini-scarecrow which was, quite frankly, one of the ugliest and most disturbing garden ornaments I have ever seen.
Having lived with its malevolent presence for 14 months I have had plenty of time to contemplate what was so very, very wrong with our efforts and I think it comes down to the wizened ET style face and the fact it was apparently being strangled by a hideous orange neck tie.
So here is our second effort.
Please note the jaunty stripy T-shirt with matching dungarees, straw artfully emerging from various openings and, to top it all, a tasteful terracotta plant pot head.
The kids conclusion?
"That's freaky - it's got no face."
Maybe 2011 will be our year...
I love your new scarecrow - so sweet! You have also solved my dilemna about what to use as a scarecrows head as I want to make one with the kiddies but was pondering on its head.

Scented Sweetpeas - Thanks. I hope the head works out. Ours is just balancing on the top of the central pole but I think the weight of the pot itself should keep it in place.

I have to say that is a different kind of scary. I did a double take about what you had done to that poor child.
