Good grief your garden is enormous. Have seen this done with daffs and have always felt insanely jealous that people have the space.

And I think planting 1800 bulbs is even more mad than getting up at 6.30 to go allotmenteering. Yep. You win on the madness stakes.

Your specifics are, as you suspected, suspect...
The Crocus Squares were/are at Petersham House in Richmond - next to Petersham Nurseries (they of the divine food and ludicrously overpriced plants and objets).
Crocuses are best planted using a metal spike: heavy enough to reach the required depth on its own momentum. You then drop bulb in hole and brush loose soil around to fill in the holes. This way you can plant as fast as your arm can lift the spike: excellent work out for nascent Bingo wings, as well (not that I am suggesting any such necessity, of course).

Debs - fair comment! However I can say, quite definitely, no bulbs were planted before 9am and at least 3 cups of tea.

James - I bow to your superior knowledge as always - I should have known to ask a man who orders bulbs by the lorry load.

I have no excuse for my completely dreadful memory - perhaps the pages stuck together - or perhaps I have traded three children for what was left of my grey matter...

Kim

This is a wonderful idea!

Denise

You're a delight to read... and an inspiration. Keep up the great work. By the way, your sunken trampoline is awesome!

Dawn Isaac

Thanks so much Denise and Kim - encouragement is always welcome!
