Watch out for Verbena bonariensis the stems are very sharp: how about V.hastata?

Duly noted. Perhaps I'm being a little harsh in my sensory garden ideas. Sense of touch is one thing, causing pain another entirely. My only concern with the V. hastata is that is might not be such a magnet to butterflies.

I like your list of plants for kids. My boys love nasturtium, they eat its flowers! They also love dill - they pick it from the vegetable and flower beds and eat right there.

Nice idea Tatyana - I shall add it to my list of plants for the garden I'm creating at my son's pre-school. Thanks!
